PRINCIPALā€™s NEWSLETTER
24th June 2024

Dear Parents and Friends,

I trust that this newsletter finds you well and in good spirits.
Assessments have been concluded for the most part, except for the Year 9 BECE examinations, which will start in early July. The Progressive Tests completed recently are online assessments for Years 7-10 students in the core subjects. These accurately measure how our college and students perform in English, Mathematics, and Science and measure both in-year and year-on-year progress. This is a valuable tool as it highlights strengths and gaps in reading and core subjects plus,
ļ‚· reveals barriers to learning,
ļ‚· and identifies and supports students with additional educational needs.
ļ‚· provide evidence of progress, and parents will be supplied a copy of the report.
ļ‚· directly inform teaching strategies.
Our Year 12 students have now completed the WAEC examinations, and we look forward to the Continue reading

Dear Parents and Friends,
I trust all is well and that you had time to spend with family and friends over the festive season.

Our students in residence returned on Sunday, with the whole school resuming this Monday.
Some students found it challenging to stay alert at the assembly as they were still in holiday
mode and nodding off. But we will soon shake off the rust of the holidays and full steam ahead
in the routines of teaching & learning and co-curricular activities. We want to thank our parents
for ensuring that the students turned up ready and having the right gear. Continue reading…..

PRINCIPALā€™s NEWSLETTER
7
th December 2023

Dear Parents and Friends,

I trust that this newsletter finds you well. Today culminated in the last day of this term, a period filled with many activities – from examinations to inspections and celebrations to reflections.

We find ourselves in the Christmas period with opportunities to spoil our loved ones not only with material gifts but with the blessings of love, friendship, attention, and care. But spare a thought for those who are less fortunate than we are, spiritually and materially.
And when the noise of this world quiets down, we can meditate on our blessings and how, as an individual, a family, and a community, we can spread goodwill. After all, Margaret J. Wheatley stated, ā€˜Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.ā€™ Continue reading…

Dear Parents and Friends,

I trust that all is well and that your week has been a productive one thus far.

PRINCIPALā€™s NEWSLETTER 2nd June, 2023

Dear Parents and Friends,
It was like only yesterday when term three started and now we are at half-term break today – time flies when we are occupied with lots of activity and enjoying ourselves. JHC had several activities and events concluded and this will be reported on in the next newsletter such as the ā€˜Duke of Edinburghā€™ expedition, Languages celebration, etc.
A reminder to our parents that with every end of half-term and term, students will only be released after the final lesson and not before then. Unlike some other schools, JHC teaches up to the final period of that final day and parents are expected to plan accordingly. Continue reading…

JHC Parent Newsletter 6th January, 2023

Dear Parents and Friends,Ā

Compliments of the season to you!Ā

Known for recaps and resolutions, each new year often starts with retrospection and…the
month of January. January, as we know, is the first month of the year and contains 31 days.
The term originated before the year 1000 from Middle English, ultimately deriving from the Latin
noun use of Jānuārius, equivalent to Jānus. In ancient Roman culture, Jānus was a god of
doorways, beginnings, and the rising and setting of the sun. As the god of transitions, Janus is
often depicted with two, bearded heads that face in opposite directions, looking to both the
future and the past. After 153 BCE, January (mensis Januarius in Latin) became the first month
of the Roman calendar (which we adopted), the figure of Janus a perfect symbol for new
beginnings.
