James Hope college celebrated her first annual inter-House Athletics Competition in Lagos State on Saturday, 15th March 2025, at the school sports ground, Lekki, Lagos. The theme of the event was ‘Embracing Sportsmanship, Strength, and Unity’. The school was divided into four houses, and they exhibited various field and track events such as 100m 200m, 800, 1500, relays, long jump, high jump, discuss, shot put, tug of war, invitational relays.
The day commenced with the mouth-watering match past. In the end, Nelson Mandela House (Red) stole the show with the first place. It was not just the students putting on a show – parents and staff got in on the action too, stepping onto the track for special races that added a fun, inclusive touch to the day. Adding to the occasion, we were honoured to have Honourable Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, in attendance. His presence gave the event an extra sense of prestige.
Then came the moment of truth – the final scores. Obafemi Awolowo House (Green) emerged victorious, amassing 493 points. Right on their heels was Nnamdi Azikiwe House (Blue) with 470 points, while Kwame Nkrumah House (Yellow) followed with 462 points. Nelson Mandela House (Red) fought hard but ended in fourth place with 418 points. Regardless of rankings, every student gave their all, and the energy throughout the day proved that sportsmanship was the real winner.
As celebrations unfolded, parents joined in, decorating house stands and adding to the festive atmosphere. A special mention goes to Mrs. NWADIOGBU, whose generous donation of the trophies made the victories even sweeter.
A heartfelt thank you to our Founders, the JHC Senior Leadership Team, parents, invited schools, staff, and students – your support and enthusiasm made this event a huge success. Until next year, let’s keep the spirit of competition alive!
