Professor O. Ibidapo-Obe OFR,FAS, FAEng, FNCS, FNIM, F.ASCE, F.AAS, FTWAS is a distinguished Professor of Systems Engineering, a former Vice Chancellor (2000-2007) of the University of Lagos and the current Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He was born on July 5, 1949. He attended both Ilesa Grammar School and Igbobi College from 1962 – 1968 and the University of Lagos from 1968 – 1971 where he obtained the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (First Class Division). In 1973, he was awarded a Master of Mathematics [M. Maths] degree in Applied Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science and in 1976, he got a Doctor of Philosophy {PhD} in Civil Engineering with specialization in Applied Mechanics/Systems both form the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He is married to Olusola and has 4 children, 6 grandchildren. Professor Ibidapo-Obe was a Western Nigeria Government Scholar at the University of Lagos from 1969-1971 and was the overall best graduating student of the University in 1971. He was a Commonwealth Scholar (Canada) (1972-1976); a recipient of the University of Waterloo Post-Doctoral Distinction Award Fellow (1976) and a NSERC/CIDA (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council/Canadian International Development Agency) Research Fellow (1977-1979) both at the University of Waterloo. He was subsequently a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar (1980-1981) at the State University of New York at Buffalo, N.Y. U.S.A. where he served as a Visiting Research Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering (Under Professor T.T. Soong). Professor Ibidapo-Obe is an excellent, award-winning academic and has served in several capacities including international teaching/research exposures as an International Scholar-in-Residence at The Pennsylvania State University (2008); Visiting Research Professor at Texas Southern University in Houston USA(2007/8), University of Tennessee, Knoxville, USA (2001) and University of Oklahoma, Norman, USA (1998); Academic Guest at the Otto-von-Guericke Universitat in Magdeburg, Germany (1995,1998); Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto, Canada (1990); Visiting Associate Professor at the Louisiana State University/ Southern University, Baton Rouge, USA (1989) and Visiting Professor at the University of Zimbabwe (1989) and University of Yaoundé I (1995). He was the Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities. He is a 2-time award recipient of the Best Vice Chancellor’s Prize (2004, 2005) for the Nigerian University System (NUS).The tenure witnessed a phenomenal development of the University through massive re-assessment and focussed endowment/funds mobilisation. With over 150 research articles and paper publications to his name, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe was elected as a Fellow of the African Academy of Science (AAS) as well as that of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2010 and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) in 2015. He is a recipient of the ICOBA Merit Award. He was conferred the national honour as Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) by the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2004.
