Dear Parents and Friends,

After the celebrations of an excellent IGCSE performance by our Year 12 students, all are now focussed on doing their very best with the imminent WAEC examinations.

After the celebrations of an excellent IGCSE performance by our Year 12 students, all are now focussed on doing their very best with the imminent WAEC examinations.

The Year 11 students have their work cut out to improve on this spectacular result and it is possible with dedicated focus and consistent application. We are doing all we can at school to ensure each student is doing their all-out best. Parents support is invaluable, and we encourage and expect all parents to motivate, encourage and show an interest in their children ’s academic performance and work, irrespective of the year or grade they are in. The forthcoming school break in February affords parents to do this with some intensity and care.

We often hear people from a wide spectrum of our society speak and raise their perspectives of what ‘quality education’ is. First and foremost, quality education is not rote learning, relying more on memory than the mastery of a topic or subject. In fact, it is so much more than that, quality education focuses on the whole child—the social, emotional, mental, physical, and cognitive development of each student, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or geographic location. It prepares the child for life, not just to do well in examinations or assessments. This type of education will provide the outcomes needed for individuals, communities, and societies to prosper.

Quality education is supported by three key pillars: (1) ensuring access to quality teachers; (2) providing use of quality learning tools and professional development; (3) and the establishment of safe and supportive quality learning environments.

Taking guidance from our Founders, the Leadership, Management and all Staff of JHC are aligned with the mission to provide quality education. As Principal with a great team (parents included), I am honoured to be leading JHC to realise its full potential and we are seeing the positive outcomes from our labour of love.

In conclusion, ‘Happiness lies in the joy of achievement. Be of good cheer until we meet again. Yours truly,

Abraham. P. Swart

Principal
