Dear Parents and Friends,
I trust that this newsletter finds you in good spirits.
Firstly, thank you to the parents who attended the Parents Academic Review (Years 9, 11 & 12) last Saturday, it was a success. We appreciate the effort and time in arranging your affairs to travel to Agbor, center of the universe!
Secondly, in celebration and appreciation of our parents, the responsibilities of a parent are many and at times no thanks are given for certain tasks, but it is a labour of love and our God-given responsibility. Therefore, we sacrifice and leave no stone unturned to ensure that
our children are cared for. Children being children, often do not appreciate the efforts and sacrifices made on their behalf and at times take things for granted. But at the same time, it is good to remind them of the privileges they enjoy which other children can only dream of.
For a fact, raising children in this day and age is certainly challenging and yet, also rewarding.
In this regard, I reflect on the writing of one of my favourite philosophers and writers, Kahlil Gibran and his classic masterpiece, The Prophet. After a sojourn of many years, Almustafa, the prophet, was about to return home; and as he waited for his ship, the townsfolk ask for wisdom and advice before his farewell. I quote: “And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.”
This is a beautifully written literary work and describes our responsibility as parents and that children are to be raised with discipline and in the knowledge of our Creator.
IMPORTANT NOTICES:
1. 2020 Year 7 Admissions: We are in the process of finalising the Year 7 (JS1)
Admissions advert for publication. Once completed then it will be uploaded to the JHC website with the Application Form.
2. Increase in Fees for NEW and EXISTING Students of JHC: After careful
consideration and taking into account a variety of factors, the JHC Board of Governors has found it necessary to increase school fees effective from next year, September 2020.Please be informed that the fee for the 2020 Admissions for Year 7 is N3,000,000.00 (Three Million Naira Only), while the fee for the existing (Years 7-11) students will be N2,500,000.00 (Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira Only).
In conclusion, ‘When the world is so complicated, the simple gift of friendship is within all of our hands.’
